ABOUT ME

I am Dr. Alberto A. Condori, a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). In my career, I have been recognized for excellence in teaching and mentoring and have received external grants to support my research efforts while striving to make a positive impact on the University and the community.

I am dedicated to academic excellence. I teach courses at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, focusing on the development of both problem-solving and critical-thinking skills through data-driven learning and teamwork-based activities. Most recently, I earned the 2023-2024 Senior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award at FGCU for my efforts to support innovative and student-centered teaching, and for cultivating habits of lifelong learning through internship-like experiences for my students through partnerships with industry and academia.

Also, I am passionate about a wide range of interdisciplinary research topics. My mathematical interests originated in Mathematical Analysis but have now expanded to Data Science, Mathematical Epidemiology, Linear Algebra, and Graph Theory. For instance, I recently co-authored the volume Recent Progress in Function Theory and Operator Theory in 2024 under the Contemporary Mathematics Series of the American Mathematical Society; I secured a second grant to conduct a data-driven study on the West Nile virus in Lee County for 2024 and 2025; and I am currently studying spectral graph theory for clustering in a data-science project related to human trafficking in Florida.

Finally, I strive to make an impact on the University and community by engaging in a wide range of service activities. For the mathematical community, I co-organize conferences, regularly referee articles for research journals, and publish reviews for the American Mathematical Society. For the student body, I mentor students in research regularly, in both mathematics and interdisciplinary topics, and facilitate their participation in conferences at the local and national levels. For the University, I mentor junior faculty to ensure their professional success and retention. In recognition of my efforts, I received the 2023-2024 Faculty Excellence in Mentoring Award at FGCU. Finally, at the department level, in addition to serving as a Graduate Program Coordinator for six years, I have chaired search and textbook committees, co-authored calculus competition materials, and regularly participate in curriculum development and assessment.
